Beautiful Monsters III

The third principle of this practice is Waiting. We have to give the Meeting and the Being some time. We have to remember that this is a practice of befriending a part of ourselves that we may have dismissed or ignored in the past. It takes some time. So we use the kindness and compassion of patience to just practice Being with, and wait to see what happens. No agenda.

In Rinpoche’s words:

This stage of waiting allows you to refine your handshake and make sure you are not rushing to make something happen, in which case our handshake is being sabotaged by antidoting [suppression or distraction]. Or you might be rushing to lecture your beautiful monsters, before they trust you and are ready to listen. Just wait and relax…

There is a special relief when you actually drop in and just feel the feelings. You’re being true to yourself. Suppressing and avoiding can make you feel emotionally ungrounded, like you’re not centered in your feeling world. To drop in and feel, without judging, is a gift…

We can give ourselves that kind of relief and support, but we have to turn toward the pain, not away from it.

Our practice provides a safe and gentle space to experience the deep connection with all our feelings and to see the underlying nature of openness and compassion that is our true nature.
