Ideal World

This week’s words come from fellow Foundation for Active Compassion teacher, Terry Conrad, in his booklet, Fundamentals of Spiritual Practice.

All of us experience moments of irritation, frustration, even anger. We have moments of peace, contentment, and joy. Which one defines us? Moments with loved ones, in nature, meditating, praying, reading, or listening to music are deeply satisfying. Such moments verify that happiness and peace of mind are possible. We feel intimately connected, open, receptive, willing to offer ourselves to whatever happens next without knowing what it is or feeling the need to control it.

Joy arises, a profound loving connection with nature, family, friends, or celebration. The embrace of connection breaks through feelings of being separate or apart from anything or anyone. Feelings of joy verify that the capacity for love, connection, happiness, and peace of mind are already within us.

Terry encourages us to be mindful of what we give our attention to in life. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi always said, “That which we give our attention to grows stronger in our life.”

Our intentions direct our attention. And our attention defines our patterns of thinking.

So, be aware of what you set for intentions and look where you place your attention in each moment.
