Self-Care Writing (from the Call to Care Educator’s Guide)
We can practice being caring towards ourselves through the practice of compassionate letter writing.
- Call to mind a minor difficulty or disappointment you have experienced recently, possibly including your challenge with finding time for self-care.
- Spend a few moments embodying your compassionate self as in our contemplative practices: receiving love and compassion from your benefactors.
- Then, take some time to write a note to yourself, from your compassionate frame of mind, in which you acknowledge the issue at hand.
- Try to empathize with your experience, offering a helpful or alternative perspective on the situation, and offer some support and validation.
- Try to avoid using condemning or self-critical language, or telling yourself what you “should” do or feel in this situation.
- Simply be a caring friend to yourself.
