On-The-Spot Driving Practices:
Stop Light Practice
When you are driving and come to a stop light, keeping your foot firmly on the brake, close your eyes, take a deep breath in, releasing it slowly, letting the mind relax into its own natural openness.
When you hear the ‘horn-of-remindfulness’ behind you, it is time to focus on the road, check for a green light, release the pressure on the brake and continue forward when safe to do so.
Making Friends While You Drive
Has anyone ever cut you off in traffic? Of course they have! You know the type, right?
Rather than let anger, resentment, and revenge take over, imagine that the driver is your Grandmother or favorite Auntie.
Now, would you ever yell at her? Or blast your horn at her for a mile? Or put your arm out the window and shake your fist at her? Of course not. You just smile quietly and think:
“That’s okay Grammy (or Auntie). You didn’t hit me. Everything is fine.”
And continue on your way in peace, knowing that your ‘grandmother-auntie’ is also in peace.
